Unveiling Confidence Through Advanced Techniques

Ear surgery can significantly impact an individual’s appearance and self-confidence. Whether correcting prominent ears, addressing ear deformities, or enhancing ear aesthetics, Dr. Brace uses advanced techniques with hidden incisions to achieve the best outcome.

Are you a candidate for ear surgery?

Ear surgery can be life-changing for individuals seeking to address ear-related concerns. If you have any of the following issues, you may be an ideal candidate for ear surgery at Guelph Facial Plastics:

Prominent ears

If you feel self-conscious due to protruding ears, otoplasty repositions the ears to lie naturally against the head for a balanced appearance.

Ear deformities

Individuals with congenital ear deformities, such as misshapen or asymmetrical ears, can benefit from ear reconstruction surgery, where Dr. Brace’s expertise can create a natural-looking ear structure.

Earlobe damage

Torn or stretched earlobes can result from injury, heavy or gauged earrings. Repairing or reduction can create a proportionate and aesthetically pleasing earlobe appearance.

More prominent earlobes

If you have earlobes that are excessively large or elongated, earlobe reduction surgery can resize them to enhance facial harmony.

Age-related changes

Otoplasty is effective for both adults and younger individuals. It can address age-related changes in the ears, such as sagging or elongation, or correct aesthetic ear concerns associated with significant weight loss.

Dissatisfaction with previous surgery

If you’ve had prior ear surgery that did not achieve the desired results or left you with an unnatural appearance, a revision otoplasty by Dr. Brace can correct these issues.

Good overall health

To undergo ear surgery safely, candidates should be in good general health and safe to undergo minor surgery.

Non-smoker

Being a non-smoker is essential for optimal healing and reduced risk of complications after ear surgery.

Custom ear surgeries

  • Otoplasty: Otoplasty or “ear pinning” surgically reshapes the ears to reduce prominence.
  • Lobuloplasty: A lobuloplasty reshapes the earlobes, usually to correct a sagging elongated appearance.
  • Gauged ear repair: Gauge ear repair is performed to restore a natural appearance to earlobes stretched by spacers. The lobe can be re-pierced after healing.
  • Slot ear repair: A slot ear repair is performed on patients with a partially torn pierced earlobe at the edge but not through it. Slot ear deformities make it difficult or impossible to wear earrings that use a post and backing, with the earring falling through the piercing. The ear can be re-pierced after a slot ear repair.
  • Lacerated ear lobe repair: This problem is caused by an earring splitting the earlobe. Once repaired and healed, the earlobe can be re-pierced.
  • Ear trauma reconstruction: When the ears have been affected by trauma or skin cancer, Dr. Brace offers advanced ear reconstruction.

Types of ear surgeries

To provide accessible options for patients seeking ear surgeries, various techniques, and procedures have been developed. The key is to determine the desired outcomes when selecting the appropriate approach.

Ear pinning (otoplasty)

Ear pinning, or otoplasty surgically corrects overly-prominent ears. Dr. Brace skillfully repositions the ears to lie closer to the head for a balanced and natural appearance. This procedure is performed on children, adolescents, and adults, and Dr. Brace ensures each surgery is tailored to the individual’s unique anatomy and aesthetic goals.

Earlobe repair

For patients with torn, stretched, or elongated earlobes, Dr. Brace offers earlobe repair surgery. With meticulous attention to detail, he restores the earlobes’ natural shape and symmetry. After the ears have healed, they can be re-pierced if desired.

Earlobe reduction

Earlobe reduction is a procedure designed to resize larger or elongated earlobes. Dr. Brace uses precision surgical techniques to create more beautifully proportioned, aesthetically pleasing earlobes that complement the patient’s features.

Ear reconstruction

In cases of congenital ear deformities, injury, or cancer resection, Dr. Brace extends his expertise to perform ear reconstruction. This intricate procedure involves restoring the ear’s form and function using advanced techniques and custom surgery.

The otoplasty procedure: What to expect

Consultation

The journey to ear surgery begins with a comprehensive consultation with Dr. Brace. During this appointment, he assesses the patient’s general health, facial aesthetics, and specific concerns regarding ear shape, size, and projection. Dr. Brace takes standard photographs and 3D images. He then crafts a custom surgical plan appropriate for the individual.

Surgery

Otoplasty is performed at Guelph Facial Plastics’ state-of-the-art surgery centre, under IV sedation or general anesthesia. Dr. Brace marks all incisions before administering anesthesia for a precision procedure. Depending on the extent of correction and any additional procedures, the surgery takes approximately 1 to 2 hours in most cases.

Recovery

After surgery, the patient can return home to rest and recover. They will have detailed aftercare instructions to facilitate a smooth recovery. Mild bruising, swelling, and discomfort are common but easily managed with prescription medications and ice application. Patients will have several follow-up appointments to monitor healing progress.

The gift of renewed confidence

The impact of otoplasty goes beyond physical appearance. Dr. Brace understands its profound effect on a person’s self-esteem and confidence. With each ear surgery, he strives to provide patients with the gift of renewed confidence, creating greater harmony and balance in their facial appearance.
